You read that right, the 1kg burrito.
I know what you are thinking… how big is a kilo? Answer: it’s 2.2 pounds. That’s 2.2 pounds of rice, beans, meat, salsa, cheese, and sour cream!
And you’re probably wondering how the heck I ate this thing, and the easy answer is, I didn’t, Ben did. I ate my normal sized burrito and cheered him on!
So in keeping with tradition of all What I Ate Wednesday’s I should start with stories about breakfast and photos of what I ate – unfortunately by the time I realized 1kg burrito day was a great day for WIAW my omelette and bacon had been consumed.
For lunch I heated up leftovers of thai from Sunday night.
We’ve been eating out every day since the storm hit last week, not because we have to, but because we have been so busy. Ben’s working two jobs now (his regular 8-5 and Uber on his downtime) and I’ve got one in a restaurant, so our time at home to cook has been limited. Thai takeaway and Netflix Sunday night was the way to go!
Now the reason you are all here… the 1kg burrito!
I took the train to Tuggarah on Monday afternoon and met Ben at the station after work before heading to Mad Mex – Australia’s take on Chipotle.
Monday was the kick off to their 1kg burrito challenge, and everyone who completes it gets a Mexican fighter mask (think Nacho Libre). Once Ben saw the prize he was hooked and he made sure we went on day 1.
I tried to give him some advice when ordering… like how cheese and sour cream would be a killer, and how if he adds veggies he would just have a bigger burrito… but he didn’t listen.
I ordered my burrito as well, and a strawberry margarita – the one thing my Chipotle in Florida is sorely lacking.
Compared to Ben’s burrito my regular sized burrito just looks like a little baby – but hey this post is supposed to be about what I ate, right?
And that’s what I ate… now back to that 1kg burrito.
Ben was prepared to take on the challenge… he ripped off the paper and dug in!
How’s it taste Ben?
And now the question that I know you’re dying to ask… Did he finish it?!
After all was said and done, Ben said he felt “content” and asked if he could do the challenge again!
I am dating a crazy person!!
Following dinner we headed to the grocery store to buy some fruit for the week. Ben grabbed a plum and took a bite, I am seriously questioning if this is allowed. One bite of his lead to me eating the whole darn plum and then buying a ton to eat through the week.
And at home we split a bit of birthday cheesecake and yogurt for dessert… because if 1kg burrito smells weren’t enough for one night, a huge pile of dairy was just icing on top!!
Have you ever completed an eating challenge?
Can you actually taste test fruit in the grocery store before you buy it?
