Ah, the life of a blogger, food lover, and food blogger – it doesn’t get more interesting than on photoshoot days does it?
Last Sunday I was doing photographs for Sticky Date Milkshakes, mini Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream Cakes, and Individual Sticky Date Puddings (which will be posted soon). Over the past few weeks of living in our new apartment I have determined the best time of day to shoot in natural light and the best spot in the house to do this from, and that is near our sliding glass doors around 10am.
With not much time to get three desserts finished and prepared I was up by 8am and in the kitchen ready to work. I baked my tail off (ok, more like prepped and made a couple batches of Jack Daniels Caramel until I was happy with it), and then Ben came in and offered to cook us breakfast.
He cooked up a feast of eggs, veggies, and bacon (but only crispy bacon for me!) – enough food to easily skip lunch and head straight for dessert. And I did.
I poured four servings of sticky date milkshake into one glass and waited for Ben to get home from the homewares store so we could split our “lunch” after taking photos.
I finished photographing the other desserts and before I knew it the day had passed me by. Waiting for ice cream to freeze takes a lot longer than it does to melt so you can imagine how many times I had to refreeze my two ice cream dishes while photographing in front of giant windows.
After a long day Ben tried to convince me that we should have curry for dinner – I was all for the curry (healthy option) but not so much for the walk to the shop. We settle driving to get pizza for dinner – totally not healthy, but equally delicious! Oh, and got some french fries which I ate while soaking my feet because potatoes are a vegetable, right?
When I finished the fries I found Ben, sitting in front of the oven, memorized by the bubbling and melting of cheese. Ever since we got an oven with a light this is where you can find Ben when there is anything with cheese baking in the oven.
This looks like it’s the end of our junk food phase – we’ve decided that Monday will mark the start of our 3rd Whole30, er, should I say semi-Whole30, as we have some obligations in the month we can’t get out of but we’ll tack on extra days to make up for the events.
Do you find the melting of cheese fascinating?
When was your last junk food day?
