I woke up Saturday morning and Ben was still at work. This boy is the hardest worker I know, staying up all night long to work a second job to help us afford furniture for our new apartment. When he got home at 11 I had french toast ready to go, and Netflix on the TV.
Once breakfast was finished we decided to take advantage of the gorgeous day go for a bike ride into the city (completely forgetting the appointment we made at the Apple Genius Bar – whoops). Along trail way we made stops at the yacht club to check out the boats for sale. We are not actually buying a boat.
We finished the ride at Ground Floor Cafe where we ordered a chai frappe and chicken sandwich. I’ve never tried a chai frappe, but now that I know they exist someone hold me back! I need to figure out how to make one of these because holy moly this is the best drink, ever!!
Ben was exhausted and we almost Ubered home, but decided we could suck it up and make the hour ride back to the house….
and maybe it wasn’t the right decision. The wind was insanely strong and we were battling it the entire way home – talk about a workout!!
When we got home Ben took a nap before going back to work, and I got to work on this post for Spicy Fish Tacos with Mango Salsa and Avocado Cilantro Crema. Normally I don’t post or do work on the weekends, but this one was just too good not to share!
After a bit of work I relaxed on the couch, ate pizza, and watched The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt until passing out.
Sunday morning I woke up and Ben was still at work so I got right up and started cleaning up the house. rolled over and waited until he got home to get out of bed. As he got ready for the day I finished putting together our Ikea shopping list and then started replying to blog comments.
For those of you that have left me comments over the past month I am so sorry I haven’t replied. Between our vacation in America, starting a job two days after returning, and starting the process for our big move this weekend I just haven’t had a spare moment to get around to replies. I am going to change that now that I’ve got email notifications set up! Whoo hoo!!
Once Ben was ready to go we hopped in the car and got on the road to Sydney and Ikea.
The two hour drive ran closer to three as we got stuck in major traffic from two separate accidents.
As we finally approached Ikea Ben turned to me and said, “you know, I was told that Ikea can end relationships.” I was so excited to be going shopping now…
Since we went to Ikea last week and jumped on all the couches and mattresses we had a good idea of what we wanted, so we made it through the upstairs portion of the store in an hour, then regrouped with Swedish Meatballs and apple cake; going over our shopping lists and determining what we might need from the downstairs marketplace.
Surprisingly an hour later we were done… that is until we went to pay. Ben and I determined how much we were each going to pay for the furniture, since he has a slightly bigger paycheck makes significantly more than I do, he planned on paying the bigger portion. We swiped my card for my total and then went to his. Declined. Declined again. Declined again. You know those people who hold up lines after you’ve been shopping in Ikea for hours and you just want to get your things and get out of there… we were those people.
I reckon the card was declined 6 or 7 times before we hopped out of line and gave the bank a call.
After being placed on hold for 15 minutes we never actually made it through to the bank, so we hopped back in line and put less than $1000 (daily purchase limit) on Ben’s card and then maxed out my credit card on the rest of the purchase. By the time we were done and ready to go home we had a receipt almost as tall as me!
Most of that receipt just says “abort!”
Instead of driving two hours home we went to Ben’s best mate Dave’s house and stayed the night with him in Sydney.
Dave’s girlfriend was out of town so we had a boys and Andrea night! Dave cooked up a delicious roast pork and we spent hours talking about our trip to America, looking at photos, and chatting about what life is like when you live together as a couple. I think we are going to be just fine….
Until we are put to the test next weekend constructing the furniture!
