Who doesn’t love a good three day weekend?!
We’ve been going nonstop every weekend since we moved and this weekend was no different. Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and took a stroll to the markets for muffins…
Ok, I lied. I had full intention of getting a gluten free muffin from the markets (it’s my absolute favourite) but then I saw it was National Donut Day in
America instagram-land and I was jealous. Doughheads was calling my name!
They were still getting their doughies ready when we arrived, so Ben bought me my first Gozleme with spinach, chicken, and cheese! It was delicious!! Probably not the best for breakfast but I won’t complain.
and then it was back in line for the donuts!
Doughheads is famous around Newcastle for their gourmet donuts and this was the first time I had ever tried.
It’s probably a good thing I’d never had a Doughheads donut before because now I am addicted!!
We did a bit more browsing around the market and then it was off to the Newcastle Knights game.
I’ve gone to one NRL game before, and let me tell ya, I still don’t understand Rugby League nor do I like it nearly as much as I love the NFL. Even with Ben’s friend Mitch with us (who knows everything about sports) explaining the game to me I still didn’t understand the reason for a lot of things going on during the game. It was tons of fun though!
When we got back from the game we were whipped and instead of going out like we had planned I threw on my cozy pajamas, we ordered a pizza, and watched a marathon of Pretty Little Liars. On Sunday morning we were up early and on the road to Sydney for the day with our friends. We took the bus into the city from the Northern Beaches and headed to the Bird in Hand in Glebe for lunch.
That sandwich tastes as good as it looks!
After lunch we went to The Little Guy for drinks.
And one drink turned into about 15 for the boys – I stuck to my 1 glass of gin and tonic – over the following 7 hours. Drinking all afternoon at a bar, no matter how cute and charming it is, isn’t really my idea of a great day but as long as the boys enjoyed themselves that’s all the matters.
We left Sydney this morning stopping at Beaches in Narrabean for breakfast.
And then a stroll along the beach.
When we got home I changed into my pajamas, put on a pot of tea, and shared the last of the donuts with Ben while I finished up season 5 of Pretty Little Liars.
I refuse to watch PLL at night alone, so Ben sits in the same room with me and watches his own stuff on Netflix while I remain petrified from PLL – but Ben joined me for the finale episode and I actually think he might have enjoyed it!
What did yall get up to this weekend?
