This weekend started off like all of our weekends usually do…
Wine. Movie. Dinner.
Tempus Two. Boyhood. Fajitas.
Saturday morning Ben and I headed to Redhead beach, which is just a bit farther south than the beaches in Newcastle, and their café does a great breakfast!
After sharing a bacon and egg roll we headed down to the beach to enjoy the sand, water, and views.
I was blessed with my mom’s ability to burn, and dad’s ability to tan, which basically means my pale skin doesn’t do anything in the sun. I have never tanned or burned in Australia… until this weekend. I am red.
Ladies and gentlemen, listen to your mom, listen to science, when it’s an overcast day, wear your sunscreen. Both Ben (who put on sunscreen) and I are burnt to a crisp.
We skipped lunch and got Mango icees on the drive home from Hungry Jacks (the Australian Burger King) to cool us down instead.
Despite the sunburns we were lucky to have gone to Redhead Saturday as we found out a 15ft great white shark was spotted at our local beaches that afternoon.
Saturday night we planned to go out for dinner, but after showering and looking at myself in the mirror, there was no way this lobster was going anywhere. Instead we ordered our favorite pizza and rented Gone Girl.
I have been begging Ben to add Gone Girl to our movie watching list for months. He, on the other hand, was convinced he knew what happened (husband kills wife) and this was a “chick flick” he didn’t need to see. I am happy to say he enjoyed it, all of his predictions throughout the movie (we paused about 50 times so he could tell me what was going to happen next) were wrong, and we both had crazy dreams that night.
Sunday morning we woke up to rainy weather. I am loving these cold fronts in the summer. So I cooked us up a few breakfast burritos with leftovers from the week and we spent the morning binge watching Boardwalk Empire in between cleaning the kitchen and bedroom.
The best way to cap off the rainy day was with free Wine and Cheese night at our local movie theatre while watching Nightcrawler.
This was a nail biting (literally) thriller, and if you are a movie lover, a must see. If you get creeped out easily, you might want to stay at home. It wasn’t scary, but it’s definitely a heart pounding movie and Jake Gyllenhaal does a fantastic job of playing a very creepy psychopath.
When we were at Hungry Jacks the day before I saw a pineapple chicken burger with pine lime soda special; and because there is a Hungry Jacks minutes from the theatre it was an easy choice for dinner.
Hungry Jacks isn’t our usual choice for dinners, but we are back to paleo eating as of this morning and have decided that to eat strictly paleo for the next month, with the exception of Australia Day and Valentines Day; he needs his beer, I need my cake, then start our second Whole30 February 15th. To get prepped for two months of paleo we stuffed our faces with chicken sandwiches and french fries.
Have you seen and read Gone Girl? How similar are they? Worth a read?
What did you get up to this weekend?
