Last night was one of the most anticipated nights in our house, The Academy Awards. We got dressed up (in pajamas) and sat on the couch drinking our cocktails (sparkling flavored water). It was just like we were there among the stars. But thank goodness we weren’t because no one needs to see all that.
Of course we watched the awards to find out who won in all the big categories, and to see all of the gorgeous gowns and suits on the red carpet. We are gearing up for my best friends wedding in April and I am still in search of a dress. I’ve spent heaps of time on Rent the Runway checking out reviews and figuring out which dress I might wear. After watching all of the red carpet fashion last night I hopped on to RTR to see if I could recreate some of my favorite looks for the upcoming black tie affair. All of the RTR dresses are under $500 to rent, most under $110.
Note: This is not a sponsored post, I’ve just spent way too much time on the Rent the Runway website looking at dresses.
ZAC Zac Posen
Award Winning Gown
It may not be strapless, it my not be lacy, but one this it is is sexy. I picked this dress because it’s figure flattering, hip hugging, and a down right sexy red color like Rosamund’s choice at the Oscars.
Issa Gold Cassia Gown
Carmen Mark Valeo Gold Idol Gown
I just love this dress on Emma Stone. The color matches her hair and skin tone. And did anyone see her lip color? Flawless. Both dresses on the right look stunning, and are suitable to match most skin tones and hair colors.
Anna Faris looks radiant in this sparkling silver gown, the right choice for the Oscars. However, wearing that gown to a wedding could overshadow a bride, so I’ve picked similar sparkling strapless gown with a little less poof; perfect for a formal affair.
Carmen Mark Valvo
Natural Beauty Gown
Holy smokes see through! I thought Jennifer Aniston’s dress was pretty, but I could do without all the see through areas. She’s got a great body, but the see through dress looked a bit trashy for such a nice event. If she had chosen a dress similar to the one on the right I think she’d have a better shot at getting off some of those worst dressed lists.
Catch the Wave Gown
Critics were divided on this dress, I personally think it’s simple and gorgeous. The RTR carries the same classiness in the front as Gwyneth’s dress, and moves the feature statement to the back.
La Petite Robe di Chiara Boni
Cate Blanchett had one of my favorite Oscar/black tie wedding looks of the night. I think this combination of black dress and bold necklace is perfect for formal affairs. I love the RTR black dress and think it would go quite well with the Kate Spade necklace for a formal spring affair.
Vermelho Olinda Gown
I’ve seen Dakota at the top of some best dressed lists, but she isn’t doin it for me in this one. I like the RTR version made from chiffon fabric paired with sparkly accessories for a pulled together look.
Anna Kendrick was the top of my best dressed list in her pink keyhole dress. RTR has a similar turquoise dress with a more appropriate keyhole that would be perfect for a spring wedding.
Who was at the top of your best dressed list for the Oscars?
Would you wear any of these Rent the Runway dresses for a black tie wedding?
