Have you ever experienced a moment in life where you knew no matter what happened next it was going to change your life forever?? I thought this was a feeling reserved for engagements, marriages, and childbirth. But it happened to me on Monday just before hitting a button on a computer.
After seven months of chatting about moving to Australia, I finally did it, I booked THE flight. It was the most exciting, exhilarating, and frightening moments I have ever experienced, just short of my college graduation.
The decision to move to Australia came after one long frustrating night in mid-September. I planned on visiting Ben in Australia for two weeks just after Christmas, plans were set, his parents, and their friends were expecting me… I even increased my credit limit for the big purchase.
The night I planned to book it I called Ben, he confirmed the great flight dates. I called my parents, they said everything sounded good. I went online, and boom, the price shot up by $500.
Now, I’ll never say that my boyfriend isn’t worth every penny it costs to go visit him Down Under, however, double the price I would pay for any other time of year seemed a bit crazy. So after many tears were shed I decided there must be another way!
The next day I had a crazy idea, what if I moved to Australia in February? That idea was greeted by Ben with a, “that’s a great idea, do it!”
Whereas my father’s reaction went something like this: “No. I am putting your mother on the phone.”
After a little convincing, everyone was on board.
When I finally built up the nerve to hit the “Book It” button I knew there was no turning back (unless I changed my mind within 12hrs and cancelled, then I could turn back). As the hours went by and Ben, (and my gut) didn’t tell me to cancel, I knew that life as I knew it was going to change.
The plans are set! I leave on America February 27th, and arrive in Sydney on March 1st. Bon Voyage!
