Why did no one teach me how to write roman numerals growing up? For those of you uneducated in roman numerals like myself that’s 19, and I promise that by reading my Friday Favorites each week you and I will both get better at these number things.
Favorite Flashback: Scatman
Earlier this week I was cleaning (and dancing around) my room when this came on. This song brings back so many memories of growing up in the 90’s with my brother, sister, and neighbors as kids. We used to spend weeks making up dances in the living room and then have our parents get together so we could perform for them.
Favorite Home Décor: C.Wonder Animal Printed Pieces
After a trip to Melbourne last week I can’t get over how excited I am for when Ben and I move out of our current share house and into a place on our own. I already have ideas for decorating and how I want my kitchen to look and this collection from C.Wonder is included. The safari appetizer plates are my favorite!
Favorite Moment: The Care Package!
I love my momma!
Today officially marks one month back in Australia, and although the highs of being back and my welcome to Australia balloon may be deflating, and I miss my family terribly, I feel lucky and special every day I wake up in this beautiful country. I got a huge surprise this morning when I woke up and saw a care package from America outside my door. I know my mom was super stressed with my grandmothers health and an upcoming vacation (my parents are currently on a 3 week river cruise in Austria and Germany) she still took the time to send me a couple things!
Inside was a copy of Food Network Mag (my favorite!), Trader Joes Chocolate Almond Toffee, 4 cans of Libby’s Pumpkin (to bake a ton of pumpkin bread with!), a tube of Lipstain I left in her car, and my Garmin GPS… which I also left in her car. I know she will be reading this from Europe, and I must say thank you mom! I love you!
Favorite Take on the NFL Situation: Katie Nolan
Typically I’d stay away from a controversial subject like this on the blog, everyone has an opinion. Having worked in the NFL for four years (and on several occasions directly with another NFL player making headlines on a different subject this week), I wanted to share with you this viewpoint from Katie Nolan on why boycotting the NFL is not the solution.
Favorite University: The University of Central Florida
This week my Alma Mater UCF was voted #1 for quality of life over any other university in the world! The survey used covers how the students rate campus beauty, safety, dorms and food, friendliness of students and staff, and overall happiness among others.Way to go UCF!!!
Crossing something off the Australia Bucket List: Dinner at Carrington Place
Last night Ben and I celebrated our good friend Sam’s birthday with dinner at Carrington Place an upscale highly rated restaurant in Newcastle. Sam’s girlfriend Hannah and I shared our meals as we both couldn’t decide between the duck or salmon special, while each boy got a half kilo steak! So thankful Hannah and shared because both meals were equally delicious, as well as the bite of steak I took from Ben. Mmmmm, steak perfectly cooked, smothered in butter. SO GOOD!
Just as we were finishing our meals the lights in the private dining room next to us cut out… that was weird. Two minutes later there were flames and smoke coming from the kitchen, and a fire extinguisher spreading more smoke through the restaurant. A few people from our table got up and went outside to the garden to get away from the smoke while Hannah and I went to the restroom. Within the 2 minutes we were in there the smoke grew thicker and I realized that something serious was going down. The manager ran into the bathroom and said I needed to get out of there, kudos to her for going in and checking on anyone who might be in there.
While four fire trucks pulled up to put an end to the mess in the kitchen, we were entertained by Carrington Place’s Thursday night American jazz band, sipped our wine (of course you bring that with you during a restaurant fire,) danced to songs like “When the Saints Come Marching In,” and gabbed about what a great birthday this was for Sam.
This adorable little one got to sit up front in a fire truck… and so did the birthday boy!
At the end of the night, no one was hurt or upset by the events, but happy with the food, drinks, and company… and I got a pretty good story while crossing Carrington Place off my Australia Bucket List.
Special Reminder: That Gilt sale I mentioned last week with the huge J.Crew Factory discount is still going on through Sunday. So hop over to this post for the details. I am thinking about picking up a few things for myself and Ben this weekend since an additional 30% off their already great sales will cover international shipping.
