I’m celebrating a year’s worth of Friday Favorites posts today (although I’ve missed a few here and there, so this Friday Favorites thing has been going on for a little bit over a year). Anyway, I am celebrating this occasion with a very special Friday Favorites to highlight some of my favorite things from the past week – it was a huge week!
Favorite Show: Cake Bake and Sweets Show in Sydney
I wrote a little review/what I ate at Cake Bake and Sweets at the Sydney Showground earlier this week, but I just have to share it again. I had so much fun at this event my friends Carly and Tresne invited me to, and cannot wait to go back next year!
Favorite Game: Rugby League Game
I am normally not a fan of rugby league but when someone hands you and your friends free tickets by golly you take them!!
Favorite Night: 10 Year Reunion
Which meant I was ridiculously tired and hungover for Saturday’s drive to Ben’s 10 year reunion. When we got to Orange, and watched the footy game – which I have to say is much more enjoyable that rugby league.
Then headed off to the reunion at the pub.
If you’ve read the story of how Ben and I met then you’d know that we met on a footy trip he took to Fiji in 2005 (10 years ago). While on that trip I met Ben and his teammates and ten years later there I was in a room with all of them once again. It was awkward and awesome all at the same time!
Favorite Sports Moment: Olympic Archery
Before we left the Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday morning to head to the reunion the sports girl in me couldn’t help but take a look around. We ended up at the Olympic archery grounds and started watching an older man who had a more accurate shot than anyone else on the field.
Favorite Pit Stop: Leura, New South Wales
One of my favorite towns in all of Australia is Leura, located in the Blue Mountains. It holds a special significance from my first trip to Australia in 2005 and anytime we are in the area it’s a definite pit stop.
We did a bit of shopping around town and had afternoon tea at the Wayzegoose Café.
Favorite New Friends: Shoneji and Louis
At Cake Bake and Sweets last week I met the girls from Southern Girl Desserts located in Los Angeles. They were also on Cupcake Wars three times in the past few years. We all had a huge thing in common – we were from Florida – more specifically Shoneji and I grew up just 45 minutes away from each other.
We invited Shoneji and her dad up to Newcastle to spend the afternoon with us during the week after the rest of the baking crew had already returned to The States. Their dad and daughter trip reminded me so much of my trip with my dad Down Under years ago.
We spent a few hours with them showing them around our favorite spots in Newcastle and eating along the way – foodies and bakers are my kind of people! And now have some absolutely wonderful
friends family to visit next time we are in America!
I’d be lying if I didn’t say that this was one of the best weeks I have had since moving to Australia. Being over 15,000 miles from family is hard, but I absolutely love that this week was spent with close friends, the boyfriend, and new friends, who have made me feel just like family Down Under.
What were some of your favorite moments from the week?
