It’s that time!
Time for the latest installment of the Friday Favorites!
1.|| Favorite Silly Holiday: National Donut Day
It might not be Pi Day (my other favorite non-holiday) but it is Donut Day, and what better way to celebrate National Donut Day than by
looking at eating donuts!
I have been thinking about making donuts all week, but unfortunately I have to wait until I am off of a special doctor directed diet to do so. If you want to make some donuts this weekend to celebrate the occasion here are a couple of my favorites to try.
Friday Favorites Header Photo.|| Baked Brown Butter Churo Donuts from Shared Appetite,
1.|| Nutella Donuts with Toasted Coconut from Chaio Chow Bambina,
2.|| Lazy “Brioche” Baked Doughnuts with Chocolate Glaze from Doughvelopment, and
3.|| Vanilla Chai Tea Latte Doughnuts from The Cozy Apron
One of my favorite food retailers has some great donut baking supplies on sale now so if you don’t already have what you need to make donuts, you can find a Copper Donut Cutter or Donut Hole Bundle from Food52.
Australian friends – I haven’t heard of you all having any silly holidays. Are there any? I’m curious.
2.|| Favorite Opportunity to Learn: Creative Live
Yesterday I began a Food Styling course on Creative Live. This is my first CL class and in the twelve hours.. and counting.. I have spent watching Diane Cu and Todd Porter from White on Rice Couple I have learned A TON!! I still have one more day of classes to go and am looking forward to learning even more in food styling to take better photos for the blog. Diane recommended the book Food Styling: The Art of Preparing Food for the Camera by Delores Cutter as the best book for food styling, and it is definitely on my book wish list.
Todd and Diane’s photography is literally amazing, natural and real, so head over to their website and check them out.
Watching these videos and learning has gotten me even more excited to return to Australia to put my new skills into practice, as well as purchase some new tools to enhance my food photography.
3.|| Favorite Guilty Pleasure: Ladies of London
This week marked the premiere of Ladies of London on Bravo. I have always been into the Housewives series, and over the years my love has weaned off a little. Ladies of London sparked my interest, and in my honest opinion is a much better series than the Housewives. My love for these ladies could be because it reminds me of living as an American in Australia, or because they are just hilarious to watch. Regardless of the reason I love it, I plan on watching this series online from Australia next month.
4.|| Favorite Song of the Week: Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean preformed entirely on beer bottles.
The name says it all. Try to watch this video without smiling and or bobbing your head. Can’t do it.
5.|| Favorite iPad Game: 2048
Consider this a guilty pleasure too! Like last summer’s app Candy Crush, the game 2048 is addicting! My sister introduced this game to me yesterday and since then I have not been able to stop! My mom and I are currently in a battle to beat each others highest score. She won’t sleep until she beats my high score. Ruthless!
6.|| Favorite Daydream: Vacation
As you may or may not know I applied for and received my Australian Work and Holiday Visa earlier this week. Whoo Hoo! I am super excited to get back to the Land Down Under, but along the way am hoping to make a pit stop to see one of my close friends in San Francisco. A trip to see her is LONG overdue, and I am super excited to explore a new city.
What are your favorite things this week?
Is a donut a “donut” or “doughnut”?
