First post back from a week with no posts, and it just doesn’t feel like normal. Not as many photos as usual, but there are pictures of food (of course), and a packed weekend.
Last week was crap, literal crap on the weekend, and then a really stressing, trying, and all around terrible week. I wrote a blog post on it that I didn’t end up publishing based on the good advice that I needed to sleep on it before allowing others to read it… Great advice because I didn’t publish it. I will give you a little insight into life lately later on this week… but for now, on to my weekend.
I have absolutely no idea where Saturday morning went. I can’t even tell you what I had for breakfast, did I have breakfast? No idea. The only thing I remember was watching the last episode of How to Get Away with Murder and next thing I know I am riding my new bike down the street to get groceries, a late lunch, and walk around the shops. Our Blockbuster is closing down which is just as heart breaking now as when they closed in America years ago.
After riding back home we got showered up and ready for a date night at the movies to see The Imitation Game.
We left early since the movie is on the best picture list this year, and it was Saturday night so the theatre was hosting dessert, wine, and cheese for the evening.
When we pulled up the ticket line was out the door and around the corner. This is a one screen theatre so we knew they were all there for the same movie and we would never find a seat inside. So we left and did the next logical thing…. wine, cheese, pasta, and dessert night at home.
We decided to watch Reese Witherspoon’s new movie, Wild, and found it just ok. To be honest when I first saw the trailer for this movie I had no desire to see it, but my mom raved about the book and Reese is up for best actress, as well as the woman who played her mother so we figured it was worth a watch.
Like I said, ok movie, but right now nothing in the Oscar race that I have see thus far is knocking out Whiplash as my favorite movie of the year. There are still four more movies to watch within the next two weeks so only time will tell if I enjoy another movie more.
Remember those bikes we rode around town on Saturday? Well we actually reversed pawned them Friday afternoon (paid $90 for the bike, can use it as long as I want, and get all the money back when it’s returned – pretty sweet deal, eh?) and since then we couldn’t get enough bike riding Saturday we rode to breakfast Sunday morning.
One thing I absolutely love about this bike is that it was made for ladies and when I wore a maxi skirt to breakfast Sunday it didn’t get caught once in the gears. I remember as a kid my jeans would get stuck in those pesky gears. This was a wonderful change… And it’s super cute!
When we did get to breakfast though we were hot as heck, nothing a mango smoothie from Cafe Inu couldn’t fix.
It was like ice cream in a glass made to be like a smoothie. So delicious and refreshing. And check out this decor, so cool!!
It’s a giant warehouse converted into a cafe with mismatch chairs and tables, industrial fans, roll up doors, and a piano in the corner. These two young kids played tunes while we ate brunch, they were great!
We rode back home on a super quick and pretty bike path we found (again hot as..) and cooled down by running errands, because at least we’d be out of the house and somewhere with a/c.
I know a lot of you always say that we are so lucky to have summer and warm weather but let me tell ya, I am a hot blooded person, and love me so super cold weather! This 90° thing with no a/c is the worst!
To make things even hotter, I over did it on our dinner and added five habanero peppers to the jerk chicken marinade. My fingers were on fire from just running the chicken through it. Just as we finished cooking the drumsticks we added half a can of coconut milk to the roasting dish and had ourselves some Jamaican Jerk Chicken Curried Drumsticks, and it was perfection!
We finished off the night by watching House of Hancock, which was basically an Australian Lifetime movie based on the richest woman in Australia and her crazy messed up family.
I’m going to try and get back to my normal posting schedule this week, although I do have a three day training starting Monday so if I’m a bit slow that’s why.
