If you’re an avid Pineapple Cake fan, or even a casual reader you may have noticed a lack in posts lately, or to speak metaphorically we ate all the cake and I haven’t baked another.
There have been some huge life changes within the past three weeks which have taken me away from my blog as I made decisions that will ultimately effect everything moving forward. The first of those decisions – we’ve moved!
Our goal was always to move to Melbourne but after unsuccessful attempts at getting a job twelve hours away with a visa that would only allow me to work in contract roles we decided that perhaps staying in Newcastle would be the better option.
Still desperate to move, the weekend we got back from America we went apartment searching and were approved for the first place we found. We moved in last weekend and boy was that fun!
I read on Apartment Therapy that the first thing to do in a new place to make it feel like home is to clean the heck out of everything so I got right to work – and found a hidden makeup cabinet!
Once it got dark we walked down the street and picked up a pizza, chocolate cake, and beer from the shops along our street. It started raining so instead of letting the pizza go cold while we waited for the rain to subside we popped a squat and chowed down!
We’ve decided our new tradition every time we move is going to be pizza, beer, and chocolate cake – on the floor the first night.
That’s if one of us can stay awake long enough..
Clearly chocolate cake under my nose does not wake me up.
The next morning Ben and I popped down to our favorite cafe, Three Bears Kitchen for brekkie before the moving van from Ikea showed up.
That breakfast on the left is by far the best tasting breakfast on the planet!!!
We raced back to the apartment to collect the delivery and thank goodness we were there just in time to help Bash with the heavy lifting.
The struggle was too real!
Once the heavy lifting was done we built our couch and waited for Ben’s family to arrive to help with the rest of the move – and more heavy lifting.
At this point I was way to focused on the coordination of the move to take photos until the next day after breakfast when I walked into this mess at our old house.
I haven’t yet determined if I really want to share the details of how all of Ben and I’s belongings ended up thrown in a room but this was really just icing on top of a very bad cake that was the year I spent living there. We hauled almost everything into the car and brought it to our new apartment, then hit up lunch and the dumpster for more boxes.
After two more trips back and forth it came time for the moment I’d been waiting for… the giving back of the keys!
So long boys!!…
But the move isn’t the only change around here – after all I did call this post Big Changes Ahead… the same day I picked up the keys to our new place I had a job interview for a full time role in Newcastle working in the sports industry. A few days later – I was offered the job with an immediate start.
(in-between the interview, moving, and starting my job I had job interview at a different startup company and was offered the job as well. I tried the job out for a day, loved it, but felt I would be better as a business consultant than in a full time capacity – and the company agreed!)
So that’s where I have been the past three weeks. Moving, interviewing, ending jobs in pubs, starting new jobs in sports, trying to set up a new house, and blogging – which is hard when my head has been in about 27 different places.
I am excited to get focused on the blog once again, and possibly bring some of those changes here as well. For now I’ve got no set plans for the changes that will take place, but as I get into the busy winter events season I am sure some changes will be out of my control.
Thanks for bearing with me over the past few weeks – it’s time to get back into the kitchen and bake another cake!
(or go to work – cause it’s 7:30 on Monday morning)
Do you blog and work full time? How do you manage your schedules?
